Board Member - Lori Schmidt
Scottsdale Fire Department

Lori Schmidt is the Public Information Officer at Scottsdale Fire Department.  She received her Bachelor’s of Science degree at Kansas State University with an emphasis on Journalism and Sociology.  Her work at Scottsdale Fire includes a focus on injury prevention programs ranging from car seat safety to smoke alarms – and of course, drowning prevention, in addition to media, event planning and patient referrals to social assistance programs.  Prior to joining SFD, Lori worked at Phoenix Children’s Hospital where she was the liaison between the communication office, PCH Foundation and Injury Prevention Center. Her time spent at the hospital, coupled with the birth of her two daughters, fueled her passion for making a difference and preventing unintentional injuries.

Lori was the president of the Drowning Prevention Coalition of Arizona for 10 years. She is the president of Arizona Fire and Burn Educators Association and member of SafeKids of Maricopa County.  Lori has appreciated the open door collaboration that public educators have in sharing time, resources and ideas to bring valuable safety programs to the public.  These are key elements to the success of the DPCA as well.  Lori and her daughters, Amanda and Savannah, live in Chandler.
